Hobie History :: Throwback Thursday : The History of The San Clemente Lifeguards

Our friends at The Surfing Heritage and Culture Center did it again!! An amazing journey through the history of the San Clemente Lifeguards as told by Cliff Russel. The video has incredible photos of the old horse trails through what is now South Ola Vista Street, vintage shots of bathers at the Pier, Ole Hanson and his family, Del Mar street, PCH, and, of course, shots of the day the ocean took down the Pier. Enjoy and make sure you support The Surfing Heritage & Culture Center so they can continue to archive all things water.

This videos was created in 2006 for the 75th anniversary of the San Clemente Lifeguard Department. It includes an interview of oldest surviving lifeguard, Cliff Russel, who guarded in the late 30’s. Also includes a brief history of San Clemente.
