One thing we always have here at Hobie Surf Shop is your back girl! There is no way we are letting you out of our shop looking less than fantastic in whatever you purchase from us (and unlike another company … cough cough.. LuLu… cough Lemon.. we would NEVER in a BILLION years make you bend over and prove something is defective for us to take it back. Ever. Never. Ever. No questions asked. Period.) especially when it comes to a bikini! We want you looking and feeling good in your new suit! So here is our handy guide to stream lining your shopping experience by giving you tips and looks for your body shape.
Lucky girls who have this shape can wear pretty much anything. You have curves on top and bottom, and a smaller waist. If you wear a medium top, you’ll also most likely wear a medium bottom. Dita Von Teese, Scarlett Johansson, and Salma Hayek all have your curves going on! No one can wear Luli Fama or a teeny bikini like you! Our favorites for you are Luli Fama’s Wavy Tri and Luli Fama Wavy Bottom… both pieces are available in our brick and mortar Hobie Surf Shop’s.
While you may have smaller top, your booty is banging! You are looking like Rihanna, Kate Hudson, and Beyonce. You may wear a smaller top and larger bottom. Separates are key for you! We love for you to draw attention to your bottom half, with a balanced top half!
A easy look for a top would be a bandeau, classic triangle, or a bra style top with underwire. These styles will draw attention to the bust area and make your shoulders look wider, giving you an hourglass shape. If you need more support on top, opt for a bandeau that comes with a nek strap, or a triangle top with moulded cups or thicker straps.
For your bottoms go with something that sits low with maybe a fold over waist, the highwaisted throwback style is NOT your friend… and remember, the more fabric you add to your bottom, the bigger it will look, so don’t be afraid of smaller less coverage styles. Be bold!!! Our picks for you are the Maaji Fancy Bon Bon Top and the Maaji Solid Fold Over Bikini Bottom…
This is when you are likely to hold a little extra on your upper body, such as the tummy or bust. You rock a look shared by Jennifer Hudson, Adele, and Jessica Simpson. You have broad shoulders and a larger chest with smaller legs and thighs. A top with support is key for you, you do not want your tats to swing low this summer, it’s not a good look.
Tops best suited to your shape are halter-neck bikini tops, cross backs, and tankini tops. If you are this shape you will most definitely have amazing legs, so show them off! To compliment this look and your killer legs wear this seasons hottest trend of high waisted bikini bottoms. Solid colors give an illusion of a slimmer upper half, horizontal stripes do not do anything at all for your curves, avoid them, seriously, avoid the stripe unless if it’s Jamacia’s finest export, The Red Stripe! Our picks for you are our all time favorite supportive top, The Baby Love Bikini Top from Body Glove, and the Body Glove Baby Love Bottom.
This applies to any woman who has small bust and hips. While you might not have a ton of curves going on, more people have your body type than any other! Think Cameron Diaz, Natalie Portman, and Taylor Swift. The best bikini bets for you are ones that create some curve illusions.
Triangle bikini tops work well, but, something with a flounce on top is best as it will create an illusion of a fuller bust (of course any with padding is a bonus). Bikini bottoms with tie sides or shorts help make the hips look wider and more curvaceous. To create more shape go for embellishment or detail, such as frills or ruffles at the bust or waistline, but probably not both, it might be a little flouncy bouncy overkill. Don’t go for verticle stripes, as they will take away even the tiniest of curves, dark colors are a no too, to boring. We Love the Farah Flounce Bikini Top from R. Collection, and the L*Space Monique Bitsy Bikini Bottom.
This refers to any woman 5’3 or less, in other words, all us girls who can not reach the top shelf with out a step stool… girls, I feel ya! You share a look with Michelle Williams, Christina Aguilera, and Eva Longoria.
Bandeaus and V-Necklines are best, avoiding anything that looks like a tankini, it’s too much fabric. Avoid high waisted bottoms for the same reason, besides, if you are short like me, they will end up touching the top and look like a mistake. Go for bottoms that have a skinny side, cut outs, or even something 80’s high cut! Our picks for you are O’Neill Painted Bandeau Bikini Top and the O’Neill Painted Open Side Bikini Bottom.
Wedge Shape aka Sporty Shape: You workout and it shows! Wider shoulders than hips and waist, with defined muscles. Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lawrence, and Alexa Chung look on in envy when you hit the beach. You are in shape, so you can wear anything, be bold and make a statement, while picking a look that will stay in place while you play. Our picks for you are : for a one piece try the Lapped One Piece from Roxy available at our Hobie Surf Shop in Dana Point. For a two piece, try the Rip Curl Love ‘N Surf Crossback and the O’Neill Daisies Tab Side Bikini Bottom, all three looks are made for the beach and the waves.
Hope you have some new fresh ideas for your next bikini, come on in and see us… we love seeing you!
