Hobie Shop: Battle of the Paddle Style, Pre Party Details, and Event Info!!

We are three days out from the kick off party for this years Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle 2012 at our Dana Point Hobie Surf Shop!!

Party!!!!!!!!!!

Each year we do this party we are always AMAZED at how many diverse and exciting people the night draws together! From people who are brand new to the sport of SUP, to the heads of major surf brands; the top athletes in the sport, to the legendary watermen of the past. The welcoming party at Hobie is always the place to be the night before the Battle. Free food and drinks, Live music, AND Gerry Lopez… how could it be any better???? Wait, you forgot to register for the races??? If you haven’t registered for the races yet, don’t worry, you can register at the party. Just remember registration that night is CASH only. Now, how could it get better??? Classic boards from Battles past, and classic boards from Hobie’s rich 62 year surfing heritage are also on display… seriously, can it get better?? Did I mention the free food?? :) The show starts at 6pm Friday night, we’ll see you there!

If you are a little overwhelmed, and want to look styled out for the Battle weekend and all the events, get into our shops today and have our staff deck you out! The party Friday night is a casual affair, so dress in your own comfortable style. Boardies and tees, or dresses and collard shirts. Anything goes. (I’m wearing a simple dress from Patagonia in black and, of course, Rainbow Sandals!) Here is a quick look at a few of our favorite picks for the weekend for the ladies first, and don’t forget our shops are STOCKED with tons of gorgeous finds and our online shop carries a good selection too:

Style me cutie!!

If you are off to the SUP Awards on Thursday night and you still haven’t figured out what to wear (like me!!! Ugh!!!) O’Neill and Quiksilver have insanely sweet dresses out right now that are perfect for the night!! Pick up a long but light weight sweater in a duster length so you aren’t cold at the shows outdoor after party.

The surf is supposed to be BIG on Saturday, so make sure you are wearing something over that teeny bikini, you do not want your lady bits flying out in the shore pound. We carry tons of Sweet Waterwear tops and bottoms that are perfect for paddling. If you are looking for high style, look at O’Neill’s 365 line, I LIVE in the top shown above with the sun protecting long sleeves and cut out back. If it gets really windy, Roxy makes a great breeze resistant paddle jacket.

Aside from not forgetting your sunscreen, don’t forget a jacket for the chilly early morning 7am check in. Patagonia is my go to every morning in fall and winter. Throw on some polarized sunnies from Hobie in a nice big frame. And DO NOT forget your Rainbow sandals!! Follow these tips, and you will be looking like a hottie babe all weekend long!!

For the gents:

Looking gooooood!

Rule number one for Thursday night at the SUP Awards, wear a collared shirt!!! Don’t be “that guy” who wears a logo tee/hat/lanyard from one of his sponsors… we know you are sponsored, it’s not the winners circle after a NASCAR win, it’s a classy event. Put a collar on it. You can never go wrong with a classic Aloha Friday shirt from Reyn Spooner. If it’s crazy hot outside, wear 4 way stretch hybrid walkshorts by Hurley that are made from boardshort fabric. Wildly comfortable!! Personally, I think you should be wearing pants, because it’s a dress up day for you too, so wear a pant that is timeless. Try the Vans 66 slim cut’s.

On Battle weekend it is going to be sizzley hot, so make sure you wear a sun protective top. Look for the Hobie by Hurley light weight loose fit rash guard with hood. Vented really well, it will keep you burn free and cool at the same time. Stretchy boardies are a must, anything with 4 way stretch and minimal seams are your friend. Start the mornings in a classic Hobie tee and the Outer Edge jacket by Hurley , the jacket will be perfect if the heat turns to a thick layer of fog. If the wind comes up during demo time, the O’Neill Breeze Breaker jacket is light enough for the heat and strong enough to protect against the heavy gusts. When you are done with your race, a compression top, like ones from Virus Intl, will help in the recovery process… and they make you look skinny too!

Finish off the weekend style with classic Rainbow Sandals and the even more classic Woody sunnies by Hobie.

Now that you have all the details on the party, and you are styled cutie… the only thing left is to get on the starting line and paddle!!!! See you in the water!!!!
