Hobie Surf: Congratulations California Waterman Champion 2012, Rob Pelkey!!!

We wanted to use our blog today to send out a HUGE  “YEAHHHHHHH!!!!” to our Hobie team rider Rob Pelkey for winning the California Waterman Championship at the San Clemente Ocean Festival!!!

Your New California Waterman Champion for 2012: Rob Pelkey

The California Waterman Championship is in it’s 36th year. Known for being an extremely competitive event where participants compete in multiple events throughout the day, including dory racing, triathlon style events with multiple water disciplines, open water swims, long distance paddling, and more. The top five of your scores are tallied from all your events and at the end of the day an overall female (Allison Riddel won for the women! Yeah Allison!) and overall male winner are announced…. except at this years event, due to a scoring and adding mistake, Rob Pelkey was unintentionally given fourth place instead of being crowned Champ. Sads, right??!!

Well, Rob is a relaxed guy and he didn’t really seem too upset about it, mistakes happen and all, and by noon on Sunday everything was straightened out and he received his title. So, since he kind of missed his moment, we as a Hobie Family wanted to make sure that Rob knows that we are extremely stoked for him!! He has been competing for this title since he was 11 years old. At 44 years old, he took the win in front of friends, family and especially his daughter. So since he didn’t get to hear us all freak out when they announced.. or didn’t announce his win, we decided to have everyone at the company take a minute out of their Tuesday and show him some good old fashion Hobie Family LoVE!! Enjoy, and CONGRATULATIONS Mr Pelkey, you are amazing, and now you have a plaque at the Fisherman’s to prove it!!
